Let me introduce you to my good friend, Micah Maddox, who loves the Lord and who desperately desires for women to find hope and strength in him.

Micah and I were introduced about two years ago, soon after she published an amazing book called Anchored In. In this book, she tells the devastating story of her father abandoning her family and church when she was a little girl. And she then writes about how she learned to move past this deep hurt and to live anchored in the only unshakable anchor who is able to sustain our souls through the most difficult times in our life.

I learned so much from this book, especially about taking “every thought captive and making it obedient to Christ.” (2 Cor 2:5) I learned that there are practical, applicable steps that I can take to help me “cast all my cares on the Lord.” (I Peter 5:7) I learned that the Lord gives the invitation to truly move past the incredible hurts we’ve had and to move forward in purpose and peace.

I’d love for you to get to know Micah and her story a little bit better, so this week I did a quick interview with the lovely Micah.

1. In Anchored In, you share a lot about some pretty dark times in your life. Is it difficult to share these deeply personal stories?
Absolutely. When I knew God was prompting me to tell my story, I was terrified. I worried if it was too much for others to hear or too raw. But one of the things that I have heard the most from readers is how much they appreciate me being real. A lot of times we want to hide the worst and only display the beautiful. I’ve found that there is actually beauty in the darkest places of life and that’s why I share so openly and honestly about those times.

2. How did you decide to write Anchored In? Did it take you a long time to write?
It took about two years and I had almost written half of it before I even knew it was really going to be a book. I was writing originally because I knew God was telling me to. But one day I had a moment where the light bulb really illuminated in my heart and mind and I realized that what God was doing was giving me a book not just a collection of stories for myself.

3. How did you chose the title for this book and what does “Anchored In” mean to you?
Someone else chose the title for me. Sometimes that is how the publishing world works. But it worked perfectly for the message I wanted to share. So I welcomed it with excitement and confirmation from God that this was the right title. Living anchored in is choice I make every day to remember that no matter how difficult life becomes, God is with me.

4. Anchored In came to me at just the right time in my life. I had just experienced moving across the country, and one day a pretty pink package came in the mail with this beautiful book inside. The message inside turned my jumbled thoughts to the comfort and power of the Lord. Please share a story about how God has used Anchored In to bring comfort and hope to a reader.
I arrived at a church to share Anchored In with a group of women. When I walked in the room, I realized the group was much smaller than I anticipated. Eight women. I did my best to share like I would for a large crowd. But there was one woman who seemed disinterested, irritated even. She stared at her phone the entire time only looking up long enough to give me an exhausted “I don’t want to be here” kind of look. I finished my talk and packed up. I walked out to my van and there sat the woman in her van, windows closed, still looking at her phone. God nudged me to go talk to her and to give her a copy of my book. I argued with the Lord reminding Him that she clearly wanted nothing to do with me and I’m positive she did not want a copy of my book. Reluctantly, I pulled out a book and knocked on her window. “I just wanted to give you this.” I said it with the most sincerity I could. Her reply pierced my heart with deep conviction. “I really wanted one, but I can’t afford it right now. Are you sure you want to give it to me?” “Yes, I’m sure.” She rolled up the window and I went home. Months later I received a note from a friend of hers. She shared how her friend had been struggling deeply and the simple gift of Anchored In was a turning point in her life, her marriage and her motherhood. I can’t share all the details, but I had no idea the battle she was fighting and I am so thankful God’s nudge was right on time.

Reader, are you going through a tough time in your life, or perhaps are you struggling to move past a time when you were deeply hurt? I urge you to grab a copy of Anchored In! Be challenged to fully surrender to the Lord in every season of your life.

  1. My granddaughter lost her dad to suicide when she was only 2 1/2 months old. She has struggled with some very dark times, and at times, I found it hard to find the right way to minister to her. She too, has felt abandoned by her dad. I would love to get this book to read with her. What a wonderful way to start the healing process anew.

  2. Definitely want to read this. Sounds so inspirational. I have been in dark places for pretty much my whole life now due to family problems and find it hard to actually trust anyone. Anchored In sounds like it would be a great read for me.

  3. This book looks wonderful, and something I can share with each of my five daughters. We’ve been in some very dark places, as I ended up raising them alone. However (!!), through it all, they’ve experienced God for themselves as Jehovah Jireh and all of His might names! God Bless You. 🙂 ~Kathy

  4. I’m praying for a specific area of my life to be 💯 surrendered to God. I’ve failed before and I’ve been struggling to get back up and be bold enough to try again. The pain is real and what seems to keep me discouraged. I hope to read AnchoredIn soon!

  5. This looks like an amazing, inspiring book! Working each day to surrender everything to Jesus, even in my darkest, unknown valleys! I want to be fully anchored in Him!
