It’s 3 a.m. and it’s just you and the baby…… that little newborn….. the new little miracle you’ve been treasuring in your heart and mind to meet for so many months now. You uncover the little toes—the tiny, precious little toes and the tears well up in your eyes. You peer down at those feet—they look just like yours! And a tear drops onto the baby blanket. You are overwhelmed with joy. Oh, those fingers…..the teeeeny nails, the velvety soft skin that you touch against your lips for a very long while. Another tear drops to the blanket and you smile. And then the tears flow. The joy in your heart hurts……because it’s almost too wonderful to behold. Your own blessed little child the Lord has granted has finally come. Finally come….and all the cares of the world have vanished as you hold and rock and gaze and are amazed at the gift you have just received.
Young Mary did the same thing with her new baby boy. And she was overwhelmed with joy. Coupled with her own motherly feelings of her new baby boy, she knew she was staring into the face of Jesus, her Savior, her Creator, our Emmanuel…….the Messiah…..the Savior of the world. And…..
“Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” Luke 2:29
This Christmas season, are you pondering and treasuring what Jesus Christ, our Emmanuel has done for you? For us? For the world?
Come listen to the lyrics and song that touch my heart and overwhelm me as I ponder why we celebrate this wonderful Christmas season.
