I was SO excited this morning when a package arrived on my front step! I ripped open the top with anticipation because many several ago I had ordered the newest Robin Jones Gunn book, Being Known, and I knew that it was to release today. (I was so hoping that my Amazon order wouldn’t be delayed by current world circumstances). And to my delight, it was here!
If you’ve read The Gingham Apron for long, you know how much I love Robin Jones Gunn. She is the author of the life-changing Christy Miller series.
You can read about how this series was an answer to prayer that I prayed for my girls here.
And a few years ago, Robin began writing the Haven Makers series which is all about relationships, specifically the power of friendship and impact of hospitality. Robin’s writing is honest, fresh, and insightful. And best of all for us, Christy is all grown up now and an important character in the Haven Makers series. This new book, Being Known, is the send book in the Haven Makers Series.
If you are looking for a warm, uplifting book right now (who doesn’t need this?!) grab a copy of Being Known. I’ve already read a lot of it today, and I’m thrilled to tell you that it is another wonderful book by our favorite author.
Here is the description:
From the bestselling author of Becoming Us comes a novel that asks: What does it mean to be truly known? In a marriage, in a friendship, or by a loving God?
After her mom passed away, Jennalyn was in the midst of moving, adjusting to life with a new baby, and helping her husband, Joel, work toward his dream job. At the time, she thought she’d processed her mother’s death, but only now that Jennalyn has two small children, a lovely new home, and a husband who is always working does she feel the full impact of what she has lost.
Even among her sweet circle of friends, the Haven Makers, grief silently overwhelms Jennalyn, until an unexpected encounter allows her to express herself in ways she hasn’t fully been able to with her husband. Even though Christy, Sierra, Emily, and Tess provide a soft place to land in times of tension, Jennalyn remains guarded, especially when Tess reveals she is tangled emotionally in a relationship that was thorny from the start.
Will the two women open up and remain honest with the others in their Haven Makers group? Or will their hesitation to truly be known, faults and all, keep them from holding on to the friendships that have been the sweetest gift during this season of life?

I have not read Robin Jones Gunn since I was is high school. (I honestly thought about picking up A Promise is Forever and rereading it to see if it was everything I remembered!) I see Christy and Sierra in the description! That’s so fun-I’d love to win a copy.
Annie says
Hi Tara! How are you? Has Audrey read the Christy/Sierra/Katie books yet? I started reading them with the girls and they led to some great conversations about dating and friendships and godly living through the teen years. It has really been a blessing. I hope you all are doing well.
Lorilyn says

I, too, have not read this author. But I’d love to!
I suffered a stroke just over three years ago. As a part of my occupational therapy, I started writing (copying) every day. Didn’t take me too long to decide to copy scripture so I have pages and pages of copied scripture. I was so glad to find your suggested scripture for each day. I have added it to my copying.
We are now just two days before the first of May – I hope the May list is coming soon!
Thanks for the list and thanks for the chance to win a book and try a new-to-me author.
Cathy says
So sorry – I read this part of the post before I finished reading the email – there is the May listing! Thanks!!
Annie says
I thought that topic for the May Scripture writing, Anxiety and Fear, was very well suited to this present time. I hope that that these verses bring you peace.
Annie says
Cathy, I just loved hearing that you have written out that much Scripture. How wonderful that you are “hiding God’s Word in your heart.” I hope that you have recovered completely from your stroke.

I didn’t known she had a new book! This is by far my daughters favorite author. She has read and re-read all of her books. Thanks for the giveaway!
Annie says
Yes, my daughters have read and reread her Christy, Sierra, Katie and Glenbrooke Series. I am so thankful for all of these books; as you know, the characters model Christ-like lives to the readers. This is just what I want for me girls. I decided to read along with them a few years ago, and I fell in love with Robin’s writing, too, and I can relate so much to her adult characters in the Haven Maker series.
