I just got done reading a book that I think you’ll LOVE! It’s called Better Together, and it’s the third book in the Heidi Elliot series. If you’ve read The Gingham Apron for long, you know that Stuart is one of my favorite authors.
Better Together: funny, romantic, compelling, challenging!
Better Together is about a wife/mother names Heidi Elliot. Heidi is the mom of the a loveable kindergartner and the wife of a loving husband. But Heidi’s life is not too sugary sweet to be interesting; instead the author, Kimberly Stuart, did a fantastic job of writing Heidi as a very realistic character with real struggles, relationship challenges, and questions about her faith. I find Stuart’s characters to be so relatable and her writing to be so poignant. I often have the feeling, “That’s exactly how things are! She really put my feelings into words.” And did I mention that this book is SO funny? You will laugh out loud! (And who can’t use a little extra humor during these dark days of winter!?)
I think my favorite element of this book is that while it is fun to read, it also is challenging. Heidi must keep surrendering to God, and it reminded me that this is so important for me to continue doing as well.
“I felt my heart warm up and become pliable in a way that I hadn’t felt in far too long, and I knew in that moment that the thaw had happened because I was finally surrendering. Surrendering to hope and to a God who could handle my doubt and my fear and even my anger…from Better Together
If you want to laugh and cry and perhaps stay up a little too late deliciously enjoying a warm and heartfelt story, this one is for you!
The cool thing about this book is that although it is the third in a series, it is a great stand alone book. But I also would highly recommend the other two books in this series.
Balancing Act is the first book in the Heidi Elliot series. The author is graciously offering this as a free ebook for a limited time. Grab your free copy below!
