My girls are two of the best gifts that God has given me. And raising them in the fear and training of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4) is one of my greatest joys and responsibilities. I want so much for them to know the Lord and know of his love for them. So, I am thrilled when I find a resource that helps me teach them these truths. Today I want to tell you about a wonderful new book called Brave Beauty: Finding the Fearless You, by Lynn Cowell.
Brave Beauty is a devotional (and much, much more!) for pre-teen (tween) girls. It’s packed full of God’s truth, fun ideas, and whimsical stories. My girls and I have been setting aside some special times to go through this fantastic book together, and I absolutely treasure the conversations that we are having. (Carrot cake, coffee, tea, and using pretty dishes make these times even more memorable!)
In Brave Beauty, Cowell encourages girls to find their worth and identity in Christ. In a time when girls are bombarded with images of what the world considers beautiful and valuable, this book empowers girls instead to turn to God’s Word for the truth about how beautiful they really are.
In the beginning of the book, Cowell thoroughly explains what it means to enter into God’s family. She warmly shares Scripture and stories to draw girls into the safe, loving arms of Jesus. Then the book goes on to cover so many topics that are crucial to girls in this stage of life. These include sections such as “I Am Loved,” “I Am Brave,” “I Am Confident.” The artwork is whimsical, lighthearted, and fun.
There are just so many fantastic things about this book. It is organized into 100 mini chapters, and the the format of each mini chapter is original and clever. Each chapter contains a short devotional that is jam packed with God’s word, a “Becoming Brave” section that calls the reader to a simple action, and a “Courageous Call,” which is a prayer that pertains to the chapter’s topic. Some chapters also contain fun quizzes (you remember quizzes from teen magazines, right?!) and areas for girls to journal about current loves, interests, and feelings. Cowell comments that Brave Beauty is designed to become a keepsake filled with a record of this precious time in a girl’s life.
As a mom of these precious girls, I am thankful for a resource that will build my girls up with the TRUTH of God’s love and purpose for them. I am excited to continue to use this book in our home.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on Brave Beauty: Finding the Fearless You. It made me so happy to see that the thought I gave behind the design resonated with you and your girls, but most of all, I am thrilled that you see the value in soaking girls’ hearts in God’s truth!
I hope Brave Beauty will help so very many girls to build their confidence on Christ – the only One who is truly stable enough for us to build our lives on. It is my prayer that moms, grandmas, aunts, neighbors and mentors will get Brave Beauty into the hands of the girls in their lives that they love and help them to become brave!
I appreciate you and your daughter’s review as well!
