We have five kids, and three of them are boys. Three boys- right in a row! So, as you can imagine, I am always on the look-out for fun birthday cake ideas. Our Matthew turned six a few weeks ago, and we had a family party. We kept the menu simple and fun: walking tacos, frozen fruit cups, chips and guacamole, and this fun bulldozer birthday cake.
This cake was so fun and easy to make. My girls, ages nine and eleven, did the decorating.
We took the easy way out and used two chocolate cake mixes. If we would’ve had a little more time, I would’ve used this favorite chocolate cake recipe; it’s the best! I baked them in three round cake pans, which were 12 inches, 10 inches, and 6 inches, to give an authentic terraced look. We cut the top layer a little to make it look like the bulldozer had really been working hard. Then for the frosting, we used Cousin Patty’s Decorator Frosting recipe. And crushed Oreos and mini chocolate chips were the “dirt.”
Matthew loved it and was so proud to show his cousins when they arrived.
Six year olds are so much fun. I love how easy they are to please (great for this mom who cannot make fancy cakes!!). I love their enthusiasm, joy, and their missing teeth. 🙂
Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
