The past week it has felt like winter here in Iowa. I’ve been trying to convience myself that with the cold and snow arriving extra early this year, that spring will arrive equally as early. This may be a failing tactic I’m using to try and trick my mind into accepting the 0 degree temps. Brrr.
One way to warm up on these chilly days are cooking up a warm comforting dish. This creamed chicken recipe is just that! Serve over the 7 Up Biscuits I posted about last week and you have a delicious and easy to serve meal on these cold evenings.

Creamed Chicken Over Biscuits
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/3 cup flour
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups heavy cream or 2% milk if looking to reduce calories
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground black pepper or more to taste
- 3 cups cooked chopped chicken
- Optional:
- 2 cups frozen vegetables thawed and drained (peas or pea and carrots are our favorite)
- cooked biscuits of choice store bought or 7up Biscuits from our blog work well
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large sauce pan over medium heat.
- Stir in flour, add in chicken broth, cream, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Mix well and cook until thickened.
- Stir in chicken and optional vegetables if using.
- Heat through and serve over hot cooked biscuits
