A few weeks ago, my mom sent me a link to The Revive Our Hearts Podcast. As I completed my errands that day, I listened as the host was interviewing an author named Laura Booz, a mother of six children. They were speaking about showing kindness to our children, and I learned so much and was so convicted.
Last week, I started reading Laura’s book, Expect Somthing Beautiful: Finding God’s Good Gifts in Motherhood. I have been so encouraged by all of the promises of God that she includes in the book. I’ve been reminded how much God cares for mothers, how he guides us, and how he is making us new through motherhood. I’ve also been reminded of how God will provide everything I need to be the mom that he wants me to be. He will provide the wisdom, the strength, and even the kindness, which are all essential. I have only been allowing myself to read one chapter at a time because I love it so much and am trying to savor each word.
I reached out to Laura, and she sent me her book so that I could share it with you all. Are you a mother? Do you need encouragement? A grandmother? An aunt or cousin or teacher of children? Then this book is for you. Or perhaps you know of a mom in your life to whom you could give Expect Something Beautiful for Christmas.
Today…I will dress someone, carry someone, and walk alongside. I will teach, and play, and sing. Today…I will repeat myself a dozen times and answer a dozen questions. I will calm chaos, address meanness, and encourage kindness. I will look for growth and treasure it.

I’m a busy mom with 6 kids still at home 3 trying to adult. I’m emotional and physically exhausted at the days end. I am in a season of a lot of refereeing. My kindness is in short supply. I am going to make myself order this book regardless because my family deserves a better me. Thank you for the recommendation.
