Hello friends! Today I am so pleased to share with you a Bible study and video workshop series that I’ve been going through called Far Above Rubies. This series is especially dear to me because it’s written by my pastor’s wife and friend, Brenda Leavenworth. Brenda also teaches a class on Proberbs 31 at Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, California.
Far Above Rubies takes a deep dive into the subject for Biblical Womanhood. The subtitle of this series is “A Practical Guide through Proverbs 31 for Biblical Womanhood.” This study is so RICH in God’s word and His wisdom, and I know you’ll gain so much from going through it. It is truly changing my life!
In the introduction, Brenda writes “Recently, there has been a major shift in our culture. Lifestyles, politics, and worldviews are changing rapidly. The very identity of a woman is being radically altered, with strikingly evident effects on our families. This is especially true for the Christian woman who is trying to figure out how her biblical role fits into our present confused culture.”
So what does it mean to be a biblical woman? Did you know that God gives us a detailed example of what a God-honoring woman looks like in Proverbs chapter 31? And this study goes verse by verse through this chapter really examining how a woman can live in such a way that honors God and blesses those around her. Just take a look at some of these chapter titles: She is Devoted, She is Discovered, She is Motivated, She is Resilient, She is Generous, and She is Sacrificial. Don’t those sound like qualities that you’d like to exhibit more of in your life? I know I definitely do!
Some things that I have loved about Far Above Rubies is that each chapter of the book takes an in depth look at one verse, defining terms and exploring themes by cross-referencing those ideas in other books of the Bible. And then the study gets super practical, and every other week, there is a corresponding workshop video in which a woman teaches a life-skill. These skills include time management, home management, cooking, cleaning, along with other skills. I am truly learning so much! For example, in the workshop about grocery prep, I just learned about grocery list apps that the whole family can add to, and I also learned to boil a dozen eggs immediately when returning from the grocery store.
Most importantly, Brenda returns over and over to the truth of the gospel which is the good news about what Jesus has done for you and for me. She writes:
“We do not have it within ourselves to be a godly example in our homes without accepting the sacrifice Jesus has made for us. When we acknowledge His sacrifice on the cross and accept his offer to become His, only then does the Holy Spirit take up residence in our hearts and we become new creations in Christ Jesus.”
So if you’d like to study Proverbs 31 on your own or with a group of friends of church women, check out this wonderful book. The book, workshop guide, and workshop videos can all be found at Far Above Rubies. Right now I’m going through it on my own, but I’m hoping to go through it again with my daughters and with other women in my life. It is written with plans so all different scenarios are easily accomplished.

I will have to check this book out. I struggle as an extroverted first born married to an introverted middle child. I struggle with my roles as a wife. Sounds like this would be a great resource.
