Hello, readers! I have an absolutely wonderful new book to share with you today. It is one of the best books that I’ve read in a really long time, and I couldn’t put it down. I feel like God allowed me to read it at perfect time in my life, during a season of change and challenge. He is so faithful to bless us in even the littlest of ways.
The book is Finding Selah, The Simple Practice of Peace When You Need It Most, by Kristen Kill. In the book, Kill describes how she came to understand the meaning of the Hebrew word Selah, the mysterious word that we find throughout the book of Psalms in the Bible.
What does Selah mean? Selah means “pause” or “interlude” and in the Psalms, it is meant to show a pause between the notes in a song. It can also mean “stop and listen,” and in this book Kristen Kill writes all about how she learned through various challenges and seasons in her life to stop and listen to the song that God was singing over her.
Kill writes about learning to pause and seek the Lord in his word during the seasons new motherhood, raising kids in a tiny Manhattan apartment, the loss of miscarriage, and the struggle of chronic illness. She points the readers to find rest and peace in God’s promises throughout the Psalms.
I found so much hope, peace, and rest in the words of this book. My family just recently moved across the country for my husband’s job, and it has been a difficult season for us. This book has helped me to slow down, pause, look and listen for God’s presence in my daily life. It reminded me that God is here with me, and he really does care. It caused me to notice the many delightful ways that God shows up everyday. I have loved picking Finding Selah up again and again, and I know you will too.
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill.
Selah
I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me,
I will not be afraid…
Psalm 3:3-6
So how about you? Could you use a little hope in your life right now? Are you going through a hardship? Or perhaps the just the ups and downs of daily life are overwhelming and you need to be pointed in the direction of peace. I really hope you check out this book; I know you will love it!
