Get Ready for Summer Reading Giveaway Series, week 3
We’ve been having lots of fun with our last two weeks of book giveaways.
So far in our giveaway series, I’ve shared a novel rich with heart-felt life issues (Becoming Us) and I’ve shared a powerful book about relationships (Mended). Today, I want to share with you a favorite children’s book that will really bless a beloved kiddo in your life.
I have an internet friend named Amy Houts. I really can’t remember how we first connected (twitter?), but I was introduced to her beautiful writing for children (over 70 books!!) and have come to love her books. Recently, she sent me her newest book, a charming and warm work called God’s Protection Covers Me. Isn’t it so cheerful?
The package arrived in the mail, and my Lincoln and I excitedly opened it to find a bright and colorful book that contained pictures of a little boy delighting in God’s protection over his creation. The setting for this book is a farm, and this was particularly perfect for Lincoln who constantly tells our family that “when I grow up, I’m going to be a farmer.” I just love when God gives us gifts that celebrate the desires of our heart, just like he did here with a book to celebrates Lincoln’s love for farming.
This lively picture book follows a young boy around a farm as he observes different animals and compares their homes to God’s protection. A rain storm causes the boy to seek shelter of his own. The rhyming text is accompanied by bold, playful illustrations. This charming book for young children demonstrates God’s constant care. And as a bonus, you can download a FREE activity packet at www.amyhouts.com. I love that in a time where we are hearing more and more about the rise of anxiety in our culture, that we can comfort our kids with a wonderful reassuring resource like God’s Protection Covers Me. Here is what others are saying about this fun book:
With fun vibrant images, clever rhymes and evident imagination, Amy Houts has written an essential book for young readers and adults alike providing a fresh reminder and encouraging truth of God’s protection. A must-have for parents dedicated to teaching their children the simple and powerful truths of God’s daily love and protection. –Bradley Williams, Executive Minister, Forum Christian Church, Columbia, Missouri
Amy has done it again by creating a treasured family classic my kids always come back to again and again. I find myself reaching for this book when my kids (or myself for that matter) need that simple sweet reminder of God’s constant promises and provision. —Kate Williams, Family Physician and mom of 3

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”Psalm 5:11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Rachel Oxley says
All of Romans 8, but to summarize, 8:31b-32, “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”
Amy Houts says
So true, Rachel!
Marisa Maloney says
I choose “Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”….
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;”
This verse has always been one I go back to through different hard times and love the picture of being covered by his feathers.
Amy Houts says
What a lovely image. Thanks for sharing, Marisa.
Carol Grotha says
Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am God.
In a busy world it is important to put everything in His hands.
Hi, Amy! Thanks 🙏 for reminding all of us of his ever present love & protection.
