Harvest Time/Grandma’s Raisin Bars

Harvest is well underway in southwest Iowa.

It’s always nice to see our harvesters pull in close to home!

Helpers assisting the driver to attach the bean head. It has to be taken off to travel down the road.
Finally getting started as the sun went down

Early morning harvesters

But before a decision was made of which field to move to, a soybean moisture test needed to be taken.

Testing out a few soybeans to see if they are ready for harvesting. This is done by placing them in your mouth and biting down on them to see if they “pop”.

Soon our guys will climb back into the machines to finish this field. Then, as quickly as they came in, they will methodically take off the heads, move on down the road to the next “tested” field.

Raisin Bars

This recipe is another family favorite…..can you tell? The recipe card happens to be over 40 years old, now! I cannot believe it, but it’s true! It’s a mother-in-law recipe……a dear, sweet, loving and kind mother-in-law whom I miss dearly.

These bars are quick to whip up, and I have to say that I can never remember a time I had to throw any leftovers away. They are quick, simple, hearty and delicious! And this recipe just happens to be one of Mr. Farmer’s favorites.

Better get them out to the field before they quickly move on!

Please notice the colorful potholders! I use these little treasures everyday as they are a special handmade gift from Olivia! 🙂

Have a blessed autumn day.

What is also very, very good are the Scriptures you include & the verses from Psalm 73:25&26 were ones that I really needed to see.
