In our house, brownies are always a team effort. The kids love to be involved in making them and they always want them frosted. I am not sure what they enjoy the most…licking the batter bowl, blasting the brownies with sprinkles or enjoying the finished product, but they love to make brownies!
I enjoy that they want to be involved and that generally, it is a simple project. Below is my go-to brownie frosting recipe, it can be used on homemade brownies or those from a box. The frosting is a sweet chocolaty topping that locks in the moisture of the brownies and allows you to add a fun finishing touch, if you choose to add sprinkles.
- 3 Tbs butter, softened
- 3 Tbs unsweetened cocoa
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup confectioner sugar
- 2-3 Tbs whole milk
- In a large bowl combine butter, cocoa, vanilla and sugar and beat with a hand mixer on low until well blended.
- Slowly add in milk 1 tablespoon at a time while continuing to mix. (add the milk until desired consistency is reached - may need more or less)
- Spread over warm Brownies
- Once cooled and frosting "set" enjoy!
Remember how I said “generally a simple project”….this is one of the instances, it was not. It was after supper and the kids said “could we make some brownies real quick?” It was indeed a quick process, not so quick cleaning up. Eek!
