Please tell me I am not the only one that is in the middle of making a meal and part way through realize you are missing ingredients? This happens to me more than I like to admit and whether its the 7 mile drive to town or loading up all the kiddos, I almost always try to improvise. (In comes this recipe!)
Whether you went to your pantry to realize you were out of taco seasoning or you are looking to cut out MSG, this homemade taco seasoning is a great alternative to the store bought packages.
I came across a taco seasoning recipe a few years ago, tweaked it to the recipe below and now this is all we use. Give it a try, it is easy to mix and guilt-free to serve!
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that you can adjust the level of spiciness.
- 1 Tbs Chili Powder
- 1.5 tsp ground cumin
- ¾ tsp sea salt
- ¾ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp dried oregano
- dash to ¼ tsp crushed red pepper (depending on how spicy you like it)
- In a small bowl mix together all ingredients.
- Store in an airtight container
