Over this past winter, we seem to get into ice cream more than just about any dessert. My son loves just plain vanilla or chocolate ice cream. My daughter, on the other hand, prefers shakes. I’m one that always has to add all the “extras” to my ice cream – like caramel, nuts, coconut – you get the picture 🙂 The other day, I was remembering how delicious hot fudge sauce is – and often think of it at Christmas.
I decided I would make some because I never have! So I found a super simple recipe that takes just 10 minutes to make and makes up to 24 servings – yay! I keep it in my mason jar in the fridge now and just heat it up any time I want to throw on some extra chocolatey goodness 😉 I used milk chocolate chips, but semi-sweet can also be used – as long as it’s the equivalent to 2 cups.
Hot Fudge Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 cups of semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 3/4 c. granulated sugar
- 12 oz. can evaporated milk
- 2 T. salted butter
- 1 t. vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine the chocolate, sugar, milk, and butter in a medium sauce pan. Cook over medium-heat until melted (about 6-7 minutes)
- Bring to a light boil, stirring constantly. Once it has become a light boil, immediately remove from heat. Then stir in vanilla. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. It will thicken as it cools.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. Reheat in microwave in 30-second intervals until warm.
