What are you doing for the 4th of July celebration? Will there be a parade in your schedule of events? A family gathering? A ballgame? As I look at the calendar, I see it’s only a week away. It’s time for some planning and preparations.
Prep Time:
Homemade ice cream and cherry pie are both on my food menu. These two items can be made way in advance and that’s just what I plan to do. Today I’ll focus on the lattice cherry pie. You’ll find the recipe below:
Making a lattice top is a lot easier than you’d think. It looks intimidating, I know. Honestly, I had not made a lattice top for years and kind of forgot how. Just follow these simple steps:
- When cutting the strips, try to make them all the same width. From the above photo, it looks like I have 6 strips going one direction. (It can be more or less….no worries.) Let the strips hang over the edge a little
- Now place those strips across the pie, in once direction, lightly, as you will move some of them.
- Now for the opposite direction: Lay back every other strip that you just placed and weave a strip in, laying it in the middle and working toward the side; then from middle to the other side.
Finish by trimming the overhanging strips and incorporate by finishing the edge, all the way around. Easy as…..pie. 🙂
There is a mistake in the lattice above. Do you see it?
Ok…..pie is finished. I’ll share my ice cream recipe with you soon. It’s an unusual hum-dinger. 🙂
Have a great week! Let’s think of how grateful we are to live in a free country. How blessed we truly are!
