“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
The Christmas “twinkly” lights adorn the garland atop the hutch and bookshelves.
The votive candles have been placed on the hutch, the end tables, the kitchen counter-tops, in the bathrooms.
Some are scented, some not. The long-stemmed red candles brighten the dining room table on either side of the centerpiece, which has the battery operated tiny lights within. The kitchen table has a flickering light inside an evergreen wreath.
The lighted Christmas tree stands majestic in front of a living room window, for all to see, both inside and out.
Outdoors Mr. Farmer has placed strands of new lights on our large fat evergreen close to our house. It’s been a Christmas landmark for our family for years, and I hope it will continue being one for many years to come.
The fireplace. Ohh, how beautiful the decorative mantel glistens when the fire is is burning. Doesn’t it draw you in? I could sit for hours and watch the the flickering fire with a cup of hot chocolate and good conversation.
Soon Molly and I will help decorate the inside of our church building with lighted trees and wreaths.
Mr. Farmer responds to my request year after year of taking a drive through town to see all the beautiful lights. Jenny and I were thrilled to see the large lighted evergreen at Jordan Creek Mall, reflected in the pond. How beautiful it is! And of course, all the lights within the mall–what a fantastic display. All these lights from flickering candles to magnificent humongous trees bring so much beauty this season.
What Jesus has instructed his followers to do, according to this verse above, is the same.
Let your light shine.
- Why? So that they (the rest of the world who are not followers of Jesus) may see your good works. (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control Galatians 5:17)
- Why else? So that our Heavenly Father will be glorified. This is His idea. This is His way….His plan.
- For He wants all to see His Love and accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior.
So when you see the lighted candles, the twinkly lights twinkle brightly, ask yourself, ” Am I letting my light shine? Am I adorning myself with Love and Light? Am I letting the fruit of the Holy Spirit brighten up the path all around me to let others see the love of Christ?”
This Christmas season is an especially fine time to be a light for Jesus. Of course we are to be letting our lights shine all year round. Kindness shown can change an attitude. A gentle answer can calm a storm. Having a peaceable spirit
For the world to see…………………
