Autumn
Autumn has arrived and with it comes chirpier crickets, languishing locusts and heavier morning dew on the earth. Leaves are beginning to change color. Some fall to the ground even without a breeze.
Fall is a quite beautiful season.
The asters and chrysanthemums are in full bloom.
And we’re enjoying the beauty of others, too.
Making a Corn Shock
The surrounding corn fields beckoned us to come chop a few stalks for a corn shock which is a must for outdoor fall decor on the farm. Come along and see what we did yesterday. Mr. Farmer and Joe chopped about 30-40 corn stalks with a corn knife. We gathered them up and headed for the designated display area.
For tools: corn knife, some twine and a pair of scissors.
Joe drove a steel post for the sturdy base. And then we started the easy process of covering the post with approximately 3 rounds of stalks. After each round, we tied them up with the natural colored twine.
Once we tied our last round of stalks, we pulled back the husks and exposed the corn. Our guys brought in some hay bales and we grabbed a few pumpkins for our display. We’ll finish the display later with mums, gourds and more. The basics are finished and we’re happy!
Harvest
The guys are gearing up to start harvesting. The combines are ready to roll. Now we’re waiting for the corn and soybeans to dry down. Almost there!
Enjoy the beauty surrounding you with these spectacular fall colors.
