Here’s a little blast from the past. Love seeing the grand kids photos from a few years ago. It’s nice to look at life afresh without any virus in it. 🙂 Hope you enjoy it too.

Would you agree that May is a busy month? It’s crunch time for the farmer! Number 1 priority: GET SEED IN GROUND—-PERIOD! And our farmers did….and got finished with the soybean planting a few days ago, right before the rain, over 2″ of rain, mind you! And we needed it! Timing was perfect! We are grateful!
In the past 5 days, we have had a flurry of activity! We have ENJOYED hanging out with many family members on several occassions!
Brian (my brother) and Deb and family from southern MO, were up for a family wedding. Part of that clan stayed overnight with us, so we enjoyed spending time with them and getting to know Teddy (5) and Ollie (3) a little better. These town kids really enjoyed the farm.
Anna turned 3!!! and so Bill’s fam and Shelby’s fam congregated at their place for a grand “Frozen” celebration with lots of kids, lots of food, and a cacophony of laughter! What fun we had as we watched the children in all their activities. And the southern Mo fam was able to have a mini reunion with the cousins!
Presently, our highway is hummin’! We have a celebrity and a patriotic monument up the road from us a ways.. It’s Bubba Sorensen and his Freedom Rock. Every May he paints new patriotic pictures on the gigantic rock, excavated from the quarry next door. And every May we have plenty of traffic on our highway of interested patriots wanting to view all the new detailed paintings on the rock. The stories and pictures of our great military from past to present are simply amazing and so heart-warming. We especially notice the motorcycles touring past our farm. Memorial Weekend and Labor Day Weekend are extremely busy times for the cyclists……………..hundreds and hundreds and hundreds (I kid you not!!!) of patriotic cyclists (many of whom are our Vets) pass by our home and farm and give us a nod, a wave and a smile. Many cyclists have a tail…..our great American flag, waving at us from behind! We, too, are a very patriotic family and we, too, are proud to call Bubba our friend and fellow American patriot! He has inspired us, along with thousands upon thousands of Americans to pause and remember that our freedom in America comes at a very great sacrificial price! Thank you, Bubba for what you do!
I just read a wonderful essay, written by an AIB student, about my Uncle Glen Bassett’s military time, back in the 40’s. He was a Navy man, a proud American who defended his country boldly. He got to see a lot of the world as he defended our country during WWII. One thing he said that impressed us so much was this: He said he’s never seen Americans pull together and support our country like they did then. Everyone did what they could for the war effort. And we are so proud of our uncle for doing his part! My mom was just a kid who loved hearing her big sister read scores of censored letters from all over the world. It was the highlight of her days, as they lived with many rations. We need to keep those memories alive.
And speaking of my uncle…..well…..he got to see his grandson get married this weekend in Des Moines! We were there, too, and it was truly a grand wedding. The reception was at the Historical Building with the hors devores’ being served out on the magnificent terrace. The ballroom was spectacular. I snapped fuzzy photo of my Uncle visiting with his grandson, the groom, and his beautiful new bride. How fun it was to witness the marriage of these young lovebirds and see many generations of family. Loved spending time with some cousins and seeing Uncle Glen and Aunt Roma and all the Bassett clan. How blessed we are to have a supportive, loving family…..God’s design. I’m thankful, Heavenly Father!
While we’ve been busy here in Iowa, Shane, Annie and crew have been exploring Colorado Springs. We’ve been enjoying the vacation through the many texts and photos. Here’s one :
We finished off our weekend with a little kite flying in the back yard and a drive……..
The scenery was spectacular!
The summer months are a perfect time to get together with family…….I hope you can, too! Do your best to uplift your family, connect with your family, love on them, be kind to them, say wonderful things about them and be a great example of love to them. Family is a precious gift!
Ephesians 3:14 “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith–that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
