***Note- I wrote this post a few weeks ago (you may notice the July calendar in the pictures), and I am just now getting around to posting it. We are a few weeks into our school year now, and so far things are going well….***
I wish you could have heard what it sounded like in our house earlier today. First we heard the UPS man braking outside our house, and the excitement started. Sure enough, he brought two big boxes to our front step, and the excitement grew. The kids started squealing with delight and saying, “The new books are here! Our new books are here!”
I quickly brought the boxes inside and sliced open the packaging tape. Sure enough, each box was packed to the top with glossy, shiny new books. The kids quickly started pulling them out. “The Human Body!! This looks interesting.” We’re gonna learn how to play chess!” We get to build a castle.” “What do you think the Dangerous Journey will be about?” So many questions and thoughts and feelings… So much anticipation.
The feeling of this day are part of what makes homeschooling so special to me. The kids are so excited about what they get to learn that they can hardly wait until August to get started. We all get to learn together and build together and play together with the same topics and themes. The enthusiasm and joy are worth so much.
Sure, we will have our hard days this year just like with every year. The new will wear off and I’m sure the enthusiasm will not be as strong all year long. But today, I will treasure this fun, happy time and these blessings.
Proverbs 24:3-4 By wisdom a house is built,
and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled
with all precious and pleasant riches.
Psalm 127: Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.
