Spring time on the farm means new life…we welcomed a few little chicks to the farmstead a few weeks ago. The kids loved bringing these new animals home. We have all enjoyed watching them grow before our eyes. They still use a heat lamp to keep warm. The kids are enjoying taking care of them and seeing them change each day. Bit by bit they are testing out the grass…curious about what this habitat will be like. In just about three months they will be able to lay eggs. We are eager to have farm fresh eggs!
We also went with the hubs to check on the new baby calves. The adorable calves were frolicking in the pastures upon arrival of the pickup. Mamas were anticipating the hay breakfast delivery. A few new calves were born just today!
This calf was recently adopted by a mama that lost her baby. After keeping them in a pen for a few days, the connection was a success! It is not always easy for a cow to claim another calf.
My daughter spotted another cow and newborn calf along the fence line, but the calf was stuck on the other side. The calf needed help getting reunited with the cow. After several pushes through, it’s foot caught, and finally – after a few minutes of a struggle it got up on it’s own to go alongside her mama. Off they trotted together- happily ever after!
