Right now my three boys are playing with water guns in the backyard, and my girls are working on their summer reading for the library’s reading challenge. Oh summer, how I love thee!! And I am sitting down with my Bible and excellent new book, None Like Him by Jen Wilkin. Let me tell you about it, because I think you’ll love it to! (P.S. We’re giving away 1 copy, too! Keep reading!)
A few days ago, a friend stopped by just to drop off this book. We had had a conversation awhile back about what it means to fear God. This is something that I struggle with, because I often feel like I don’t really understand him. But the fear of the Lord is so important!
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
My friend remembered this conversation and knew this was just the book I needed to read. None Like Him, 10 Ways God is Different From Us, is a book about God. It’s about how God is God. It’s about how we are not God. These are subjects that I need to be reminded of daily.
In each chapter, Wilkin examines a different attribute of God, including some that I’ve thought about before such as Omniscience (infinite knowledge) and omnipresence (infinite place). But she also introduces other qualities of God that are new to me. I really enjoyed reading about how God is self-sufficient (he doesn’t need a thing- how restful!), and how God is incomprehensible (we can never really understand everything about him).
At the end of each chapter, Wilkin lists verses that pertain to each character quality of God. I’ve been writing some of them in my prayer journal, but a reader could also memorize these. She also lists some questions for reflection, which would also be a lot of fun to talk about in a group.
If you are looking to learn more about who God is, or maybe you just need a refresher course, this book is for you! The writing is witty and fun, but each chapter is packed with truths that will change and grow your understanding about God and help you to value him even more. I have been comforted, challenged, and motivated to learn more about God in this book!

I can’t say that I have read any books about God that stick out in my mind. I haven’t really done much reading outside of what was required in high school (I graduated last year) But I have recently started reading a lot more! I am currently reading Knowing God by J.I. Packer. It has been very good so far!
If I don’t win the giveaway I will definitely get my hands on this book some other way!
I have really been loving your blog! I have been subscribed for about a month because of a recipe I found on Pinterest but I glad your blog is so much more!

I listened to “A Spirit-Filled Life,” by Charles Stanley several months ago twice. There is so much information and thought provoking writing in the book, one time through it is not enough.

Some of my favorite Christian living books that I have read so far include “Because We Love Him” by Clyde Cranford, “Cold-Case Christianity” by J. Warner Wallace, and “Respectable Sins” by Jerry Bridges. I recently started reading “Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full” by Gloria Furman.
