“Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, how lovely are thy branches…” We all get excited when our tree is up and decorated for another Christmas season, don’t we? For us, it marks the beginning of our Christmas focus with as many facets to our focus as branches on the tree. Christmas is a fascinating time, isn’t it?
Every year we say this tree is getting too tall to decorate with lights. And every year, I see Mr. Farmer string lights around our magnificent fragrant Colorado spruce. I run out and hold the ladder for him as he winds his way around, to place the lights “just so” on each branch. A few years back a friend gave him a bamboo stick with a hook taped at one end. This old stick has been an invaluable tool for him. His work is fantastic! I give him an A+ again this year! 🙂
Now, the funny thing about our lighted Christmas tree this year, is that our “clear-lights” when lighted look white, soft light blue and soft light green. No, we didn’t plan on having “colored” lights on our tree. Ha! The joke is on us and we are thrilled as it has become one of the prettiest trees around (in my opinion ; .)
When we were checking all the strands before walking around in circles (literally), we noticed one that had burned out, so I ran to the basement to get another box I had on hand. Then another strand quit working, so I ran to town and purchased a couple more boxes. The brands were all different and we mixed the traditional old warm-yellow clear lights with the new LED clear lights which give off the light blue and green tints.
People drive by slowly, stop and gaze at our tree. If they only knew we didn’t plan for these colors to happen. 🙂 Only God knew.
Of course we decorate our tree, along with practicing many other traditions each year. Why? Because we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, the Lord. And for me, there is one thing missing on this “too tall” tree. You guessed it…a star at the top. The star. The star the wisemen followed for so long. The star we gaze upon as we remember the first Noel. The star. Well, our tree is a little too tall for a star. But as you read the scriptures for yourself, Can you imagine following a star for months and months and months? Well, it really did happen.
Oh, worship Christ the Lord with us this season, and if you haven’t already, make Him your very own personal Savior. He loves you, so. Click here for more information: A Relationship with God

“And behold, the star
that they (wise men) had seen
when it rose went before them until it
came to rest over the place where the CHILD was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
And going into the house they saw the CHILD with Mary his mother,
and they fell down and worshiped HIM. Then, opening their treasures, they offered HIM gifts,
gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return
to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.”
Matthew 2:9-12
Can you imagine?
Enjoy this Christmas season. Remember to soak in the Christmas story from the Bible.
