I was first introduced to these children’s books by Patricia St. John books a few years ago when I was looking for some good reading material for our oldest daughter.  They came highly recommended on a few home schooling resource pages, and she absolutely devoured them. This year they are required reading for our My Father’s World curriculum, and I am reading them aloud to the kids during lunch each day.

Born in England in 1914,  Patricia St. John went on to be a nurse, missionary, and relief worker.  She captured many of her experiences in a fictional stories for children.

I can’t say enough good things about these books. The writing is compelling and really captures the attention of all of my kids (ages 9- 2). More importantly, throughout the stories, children come to know the Lord and grow in him, and I love that my kids get to learn how this happens in a life.  They all include wonderful cultural and  character lessons, and scripture.

You can find all of the books here.

  1. I agree! Patricia’s books are tremendous. I had the privilege of getting to know her and made several visits to her home in Coventry. She was one of the most Christlike people I have ever met. As well as books for children and young people, she also wrote some for adults, one of which is her father’s biography. It’s one of my all-time favorite Christian biographies. So much so that I republished it some years ago, as well as Patricia’s own autobiography. Truly and amazing family!

  2. Mr. Cook,
Thank you so much for your special comment. What a true privilege to have known Patricia!

I was unaware that she had written books for adults. I assure you that our family will find the biographies and read them too.

We feel that Christian biographies are invaluable to the training of our kids in the a Christ-like life. Thank you for your work in publishing these!
