Yesterday we all awoke to the devastating news coming out of Las Vegas. Like many of you, I felt stunned, heavy-hearted, and helpless. In my quiet time with the Lord, I wanted to talk to him about all that was happening, but I didn’t feel like I had the right words to say.
My mind went back to a message that I heard on the radio a few months ago. The man being interviewed explained that when we don’t know what to pray, we can turn to God’s Word where Jesus specifically addressed how we are to pray.
Matthew 6:9-13
Jesus said, “This then is how you should pray.
‘Our Father, in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'”
Yes, these are the words that I wanted to say to our Father in heaven this morning. “Father, your will be done!” I want his will of love and righteousness and justice in the light of all of the tragedy.
“Father, your kingdom come!” Yes, I want to live in a kingdom where there is no death and no suffering and no meaninglessness. I want to live where there is no danger or fear. God has promised us a kingdom like this through faith in his son, Jesus.
“Deliver us from the evil one.” Please, Lord, in your power and might deliver us from the evil one who is causing unimaginable suffering and pain.
Maybe you feel like you’re tongue-tied in your prayers right now. Although it may seem overly simplistic, let’s start together with this prayer that came right from the heart of our savior, Jesus. It has given me so much comfort and hope. Dear reader, may God comfort your hearts and minds today!
I found this beautiful printable of The Lord’s Prayer here, at Sincerely SaraD. I think it will be a perfect addition to my home. Maybe you’d like a copy, too.
