Antipasto literally means “before the meal”. A simple antipasto platter is a great appetizer for any occasion, especially an Italian themed event, bringing it back to its roots. These platters are easy to assemble and are a delicious non-baked compliment to your meal.
You can keep the platter simple with cured meats, rich cheeses, artisan bread, olives and some nuts. Make a more complex platter by adding roasted veggies, seafood and/or some fresh fruit.
Living in rural Iowa, I often find limited access to many specialty type foods. However, the beauty of an antipasto platter is the flexibility. The above platter was used for an Italian themed birthday….Genoa salami or not, it was a hit!
