Quiet time is probably my favorite time of the day. Often times I don’t act like it is, though. Sometimes a candle is lighted and a bouquet of flowers is placed on the table in front of me as I open the best, most intriguing book in the world. And sometimes I put off reading because I think I just can’t fit it into my busy day. Yet, I know I should. It is that important.
The reading never disappoints. Yes, once in a while I don’t understand what I’m reading, so I quickly reach for a commentary to help solve the question in my mind. Until the Holy Spirit came to dwell within me, there was no time for bible reading. Oh, I tried, but it seemed as though it was a foreign language to me; plus, I really didn’t care what it said. It didn’t make sense. Honestly, I wasn’t really ready to listen and obey. So I’d put it away for another time, another place, another dismal encounter.
When I asked Jesus to come be my Savior and invited Him into my life to live and reign, that’s when it all came together for me.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says,
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old is gone. The new has come.”
Yep, that’s when the word of God came to life for me. It was SO interesting I just couldn’t put the ol’ book down. Now and then I felt like devouring the pages as they were so full of life; so full of direction; so full of……dare I say it? TRUTH.
The other morning during my quiet time, I read Psalm 145 in the old testament. Starting in verse 8, these beautiful attributes jumped off the page. It was shocking to find so many wonderful things about God in only a few lines. So many! Contemplating on these many attributes caused me to fall deeper in love with my Father. I hope you will, too.
v8: The Lord is GRACIOUS and MERCIFUL, SLOW TO ANGER, ABOUNDING IN STEADFAST LOVE,
v9: The Lord is GOOD to all, and His MERCY is over all that He has MADE
v11 They shall speak of the GLORY of Your KINGDOM and to tell of Your POWER,
v12 to make known to the children of man YOUR MIGHTY DEEDS and the GLORIOUS SPLENDOR of YOUR kingdom. (Meditate on this.)
v13: Your kingdom is an EVERLASTING KINGDOM and YOUR DOMINION endures throughout all generations.
v13: The Lord is FAITHFUL in all His words and KIND in all His works
v14: The Lord upholds all who are falling and RAISES UP all who are bowed down. (Meditate on this.)
v15: The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their FOOD in due season.
v16: You OPEN YOUR HAND; you satisfy THE DESIRE OF EVERY LIVING THING.
V17: The Lord is RIGHTEOUS in all His ways and kind in ALL His WORKS.
V18: The Lord is NEAR to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.
v19: He FULFILLS THE DESIRE of those who fear Him; He also HEARS their cry and SAVES THEM.
v20: The Lord PRESERVES all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.
v21: My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless His holy name forever and ever.
Will you praise the Lord with me and thank Him for all He has done and is doing and will do for us, His children? (Meditate on this.)
And….if you don’t truly know Him personally, the following is a step by step invitation to become a child of God: An Invitation
Until next time…..keep reading the Bible and see how many attributes you can come up with. 🙂
