Yay! It’s Friday! Let’s make pizza!
The kids and I were in Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago, and the sample was Spicy Mediterranean Pizza. It was packed with surprisingly delicious, new flavors and textures. We all loved it, so we decided to recreate this delicious dish at home. We have since made it three times! I’m telling you, it’s delicious!
At Trader Joe’s, the recipe was made with just four ingredients: their pizza crust, Zhoug sauce, sundried tomatoes, and feta cheese. We have made a few changes. I use this easy homemade pizza dough recipe or this recipe bucket bread dough, and I add shredded chicken for added protein.
You might be asking, “what is Zhoug sauce?” I had never been introduced this zingy, spicy sauce either. It’s very similar to pesto, but instead of being made with basil, it’s made with cilantro and peppers. Look at that beautiful color! And just like color, the flavor is bright, vibrant, and fresh. If you don’t have a Trader Joe’s nearby or if you don’t like spicy food, you could definitely substitute pesto for this pizza.
This pizza is spicy and creamy and interesting and just down right delicious! Serve it as an appetizer (with or without the chicken) or as a main dish this summer. You’ll be so glad you tried it.
- 1 pizza dough (store bought or homemade, see links above for homemade)
- 2 T zhoug sauce or pesto
- 3 T sundried tomatoes, chopped
- 3 T feta cheese, crumbled
- ¾ C shredded chicken (Rotisserie chicken would work great!)
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Roll out pizza dough and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Top dough with zhoug sauce, feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, and chicken. Press the ingredients down a bit, especially making sure the feta is pressed into the sauce.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until feta is softened and pizza dough is cooked through.
Another idea for this pizza… you could make it on naan bread like I did in this pizza recipe. I also make mine on low-carb tortillas that I buy at Walm-Mart because I need to be careful with carbs.

Might be really good with a fig jam instead of either the TJ spicy sauce or pesto. The color would not be the same but it would still be that Mediterranean vibe. We get a flatbread made especially for pizza and then grill pizza; I think this would be particularly good like that!
Thanks for sharing – blessings to you!
