This year in our home school, we are studying the first five books of the Old Testament. The kids (and I!) are learning a lot through reading the text, making a timeline, and writing and illustrating summaries.
I love to supplement our Bible study with a the videos from The Bible Project. Have you heart of his amazing resource? A pastor and Bible professor are making five minute videos that summarize each book of the Bible. They not only describe what happens in each book of the Bible, but more importantly, they also share how each individual story fits into the overall story and theme of the Bible.
Tim Mackie, one of the creators, says
We believe the Bible is a profound and very beautiful book that is telling one complete story from beginning to end.
I felt that this was exactly what I wanted to communicate to the kids, so we watched these videos:
We loved them!! They are interesting, thorough and very thought provoking. I was thrilled when we had a good discussion about the contents after watching each video. I feel that the videos are helping me reach a goal allowing the Bible to come alive to my kids. We look forward to watching more of them.
The Bible Project continues to add videos for each book of the Bible, and they also have videos about Biblical themes, such as the Messiah and Heaven and Earth.
I originally started using the Bible Project to help my kids better understand what we were studying by giving them a visual context for each story. But I am continuing to find that I learn SO MUCH from these interesting, somewhat whimsical, packed-full-of-information videos that I watch them all on my own. For example, right now I’m reading the book of Jonah on my own and so I recently watched this Jonah video, which made me realize that Jonah’s sermon to the Ninevites was only five word. Interesting…
I cannot say enough great things about these! You’ve got to check them out!
