And here we are just two days before Christmas… The month of December has zoomed in and is about to fly out. How we anticipate this magic and joyous holiday season!
We have had seasonal concerts and events, shopping and wrapping, cooking and baking. Listening to our favorite songs and watching our favorite movies. Christmas candles and Christmas smells. Places to be and things to make. Spending time with our family and friends.
With the hustle and bustle going on around us, it is easy to forget the reason for the season. Intentionally, take the time to pause and reflect on the most important part of this very special month and day – the season of hope – and the birth of Our Savior. We have an advent calendar that hangs on the wall. Followed with a family devotion to prepare our hearts with the true meaning of Christmas. Start your morning off with this beautiful reminder:
Ann Voskamp’s, Unwrapping the Greatest Gift – this was given to each of us girls from Shelby several years ago. The illustrations are gorgeous.
Glenys Nellist’s, Twas the Evening of Christmas – Another beautifully illustrated book that could be read the night before Christmas.
The Christmas Star from Afar is a hands on depictionof the Nativity scene – and a fun way for kids to visualize and learn the true meaning.
So back to the baking and food… Are you thinking of last minute goodies to make for a dessert tray or perhaps something to give to the neighbors? Here are some wonderful easy favorites. Wrap up in a cellophane bag and tie with a festive ribbon – don’t forget – this is also the season of giving.
Microwave Caramel Crunch – so so addictive – and can be done in 10 minutes!
5 Minute Fudge – chocolate decadence!
Thumbprint Cookies – fun and festive!
Gingerbread Cookies – perfect for the dessert tray
Candied Pecans with Cranberries – caramelized goodness with tart cranberry
Speaking of Christmas smells, this is a favorite – so easy and a great gift for others
Then there is Christmas morning. I try to have as much made ahead as possible to keep it relaxing and enjoyable morning. Here’s our favorite Christmas Brunch Menu.
Later, I like to keep it casual with a roast or ham in the oven, and some refreshing Cranberry Punch.
Merry Christmas Everyone – may you have a blessed Christmas!
