It is a quiet, early October morning. I am starting my day with a cup of hot coffee and some verses from Psalm 119. A few verses really spoke to me today.
Psalm 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:40 Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!
Psalm 119:165 Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
What a wonderful gift God has given us through his word. He promises peace, understanding, and righteousness to those who read it and obey it. I desire to read and study his word everyday, but sometimes it is very hard to find the time in this busy home. I have had to incorporate a few unorthodox methods to sneak in a few more minutes of God’s word everyday.
I keep a Bible or devotional book in the bathroom. I have told my kids before that mom needs a five minute rest in the restroom. I go in, close the door, and read a few verses. This is particularly helpful during the really stressful times of the day.
I also keep Bibles open in different parts of my house such as on my bed or on the side cabinet in the living room. As I am passing by or playing with the kids, I read a few verses to myself or aloud to the kids.
I have also come to realize that hearing God’s word is always valuable. It may come in the form of the kids’ story Bible at breakfast or in the car with the Bible song CD on. During these times I try to turn my thought toward him and soak it in.
In what ways have you found to add more of God’s word to your days?
