The Growing Season + a Giveaway

Hi friends! I want to tell you about a brand-spanking-new book (it was just released yesterday!) that I really think you’ll love. The Growing Season: A year of Down-on-the-Farm Devotions by Sarah Philpott is a fresh, charming, funny, and poignant book that will bring you encouragement and comfort.

There are so many wonderful aspects to this book. First, Sarah writes all about her experiences on their family’s Tennessee farm, and as a person who was raised on a family farm, I love, love, love the stories and can relate to them so well.

I love how Sarah weaves her faith in Christ into her family experiences and farm life. The Bible uses agriculture over and over to teach us about the meaningful things in this world, and Sarah weaves her experiences on the farm into faith lessons and prayers that she beautifully shares with the reader.

This verse helps me stay sane: “Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox” (Proverbs 14:4) This reminder encourages me to practice gratitude for the hard circumstances, the toilsome labor, and the straight-up-yucky (someone has to clean up the mess the oxen leave in the manger).

And I love how Sarah shares favorite family recipes all throughout the book, which is organized into seasons. I can’t wait to try her Hearty Beef Stew and Wasper Pie (this one is based on an incident where wasps were accidentally baked into a pie!- HA!)
