Hi friends! I want to tell you about a brand-spanking-new book (it was just released yesterday!) that I really think you’ll love. The Growing Season: A year of Down-on-the-Farm Devotions by Sarah Philpott is a fresh, charming, funny, and poignant book that will bring you encouragement and comfort.
There are so many wonderful aspects to this book. First, Sarah writes all about her experiences on their family’s Tennessee farm, and as a person who was raised on a family farm, I love, love, love the stories and can relate to them so well.
I love how Sarah weaves her faith in Christ into her family experiences and farm life. The Bible uses agriculture over and over to teach us about the meaningful things in this world, and Sarah weaves her experiences on the farm into faith lessons and prayers that she beautifully shares with the reader.
This verse helps me stay sane: “Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox” (Proverbs 14:4) This reminder encourages me to practice gratitude for the hard circumstances, the toilsome labor, and the straight-up-yucky (someone has to clean up the mess the oxen leave in the manger).

And I love how Sarah shares favorite family recipes all throughout the book, which is organized into seasons. I can’t wait to try her Hearty Beef Stew and Wasper Pie (this one is based on an incident where wasps were accidentally baked into a pie!- HA!)
Good news! Sarah has generously shared a copy to giveaway to one of our readers. Just comment below to be entered into the giveaway. I’ll draw a random winner one week from today, October 20th.
This book would be a delightful holiday or hostess gift for someone who is special to you. Make sure to grab a few copies here.

This sounds like a wonderful & interesting book for most of us who have not tasted farm life. It is especially important for the younger generation who sometimes are not aware of how we really come by our food in the grocery stores. That being said Sarah makes it even more wonderful with Scripture & ideas relating to our spiritual life. A lovely gift for anyone or self! Thank you for sharing this with Gingham Apron readers!!

I didn’t grow up on a farm but as a child I dreamed of just that almost every night, I didn’t like being a city kid and was so jealous of my cousin who did live on a farm. This looks like a gem of a book, thanks for the giveaway!

Born and raised on an Iowa farm with my six brothers and sisters and now a farm wife for almost 50 years as we continue to raise crops and livestock with our son and family, I know I would love this farm-themed devotional.

I enjoyed the snippet of the book. I do not live on a farm, but I can see that the book would both educate me about farm life and bring insight about the work of our Lord Jesus.

I, too, was raised on a family farm (a generation earlier than you!)..I would love a copy. My aunts and I have never exchanged Christmas gifts but I think I’ll order a few copies as a surprise treat. They all love the Lord and have been (or still are Farm Wives – really partners as all that I know a farm wife is that but SO much more!
Have a blessed day!
