“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1
This is what God’s word has the ability to do. When His word is preached by the power of God’s Spirit, amazing results take shape within a soul.
Where there is tragedy, shock and confusion, there is only one salve that heals, comforts and brings light.
I saw this first-hand at a funeral the other day. Many there were saddened, confused, hurt and feeling hopeless because of an unexpected death of a loved-one and friend. Men of God came and preached the word of God in powerful ways. Those Words of Christ comforted the soul, brought hope and healing in the midst of confusion, for our Maker, Jesus Christ, does have the answers to life’s uncertain and puzzling situations. He knows. He knows.
Of course this popular verse is that of God speaking through the prophet, Isaiah, regarding the foretelling of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. And yet His word is timeless and powerful, and living, from generation to generation, to the end of time. And there will be an end of time.
Oh friend, put your hope in Jesus.
