Today, Gingham Apron readers, I want to talk about the TREASURE of God’s Word. Are you spending time in God’s word? Are you studying it and asking God to speak to you through it?
God loves us so much. He has given us his infallible word to help us to make right choices, to bless us, and to give us protection. We can trust EVERY SINGLE WORD of the Bible and know that it is God’s way of taking care of us. Isn’t that comforting?
A few facts about God’s Word
1. It can reveal the true intentions of our heart.
Hebrew’s 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
2. It will never fade away; it will always be here.
Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.
3. It gives us the power to say “no” to what is wrong.
When being tempted in the desert by the devil, three times Jesus quotes scripture in order to have the power to overcome the temptation.
During this time, he specifically said, “Man does not live by bread alone but by the words of God,” Matthew 4:4.
If Jesus used God’s word to give him the strength to overcome evil, I surely will benefit from it as well.
4. Every single word of it is true and comes from God.
I Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
Perhaps you are thinking that God’s word sounds interesting, but you don’t know where to start. Good news! It doesn’t matter if you’re a new Bible reader or if you’ve been reading it for years. There’s something in it for us all! The main thing is just to start. May I suggest a few of my favorite books? Try John to learn about Jesus and his life, the Psalms to read real conversations with God by a typical man (David), or just start in Genesis to find out how the world and mankind began. It’s all wonderful. If you don’t’ know where to find those books, look in the table of contents of your Bible or specifically google a book of the Bible.
I also want to encourage you to really study the words you are reading and think about how they apply specifically to you. Try this general outline to give you some guidance in study: Anne Graham Lotz Bible Study Method
In summary, I’d like to encourage you with this…Come to a quiet place today just for a few minutes and open your Bible- a bound Bible book, or on you computer (www.biblegateway.com), or even an app on your phone (“She Reads Truth” is great!). We are living in unprecedented times where God’s word is available to us like never before.
Find out how and why you were made. Find out about God’s love for you. Find out about who Jesus is and the love he has to offer to you. Find out about the right paths that God has planned for you. Ask the Lord to help you to get to know him and his ways through his wonderful word. You won’t regret it!
And now I must go away from my computer and read my Bible before my kids get up. This morning I am reading in Psalms and Hebrews. How about you? I’d love to hear about it!

Psalm 19
The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
and all of them are righteous.
