Maybe you’ve noticed that the tagline for The Gingham Apron is the verse, “Taste and See that the Lord is Good,” from Psalm 34:8. We Gingham Apron girls really believe this verse. The Lord is so good, and we are truly get to “taste and see” his character.
This Thanksgiving, let’s take this verse literally. Let’s stop for a minute and think about what we will taste during Thanksgiving. Warm spices such as cinnamon, thyme, and sage come to my mind. I think about soft, comforting, pillowey dinner rolls, savory turkey and dressing, and cool and sweet whipped cream on top of pie.
Isn’t it truly amazing that the Lord has blessed us with such a HUGE variety of flavors and textures in our foods? This adds so much delight and fun to our lives. I think this Thanksgiving, I’m going to go around the table, asking each member of my family to share their favorite Thanksgiving taste.
And then let’s think about what we see this Thanksgiving. I hope that you will get to see the faces of those you love. I hope that you will get to see a table beautifully set with favorite dishes and loaded with decadent dishes. Maybe you’ve made a homemade thanksgiving tree filled with precious memories and pieces of gratitude. I’m going to pause for a minute and take in the sights that I will see this Thanksgiving. And I think this Thanksgiving, I’m also going to go around the table, asking each member of my family to share their favorite Thanksgiving sight.
Let’s ponder “Taste and See that the Lord is Good,” from less of a literal standpoint now. Have you seen and tasted the Lord’s goodness this year? I know I have. He’s guided me, protected me, and provided for me in so many ways. He’s answered so many prayers. He’s been my friend and my comforter. I encourage you to take a few minutes this week and ask the Lord to help you remember how he’s been good to you. Maybe those at your table can share how they’ve “tasted and seen” the Lord’s goodness this year.
My favorite song right now is Remembrance, by Hillsong. Take a few minutes and listen to it! I think it’s perfect for Thanksgiving, because it’s all about remembering what Christ has done for me and being so thankful for his goodness.
You’ve been so, so good to me
You’ve been so, so good to me
Oh to think where I would be
If not for You
If not for YouAs far as heights reach from the depths
As far as east is from the west
So far Your grace has carried me
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, friends!
Psalm 107:1 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
