Philippians 4: 8:
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is Right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
You should be familiar with these beautiful and helpful verses by now as I’ve recently been dissecting them . I love to firmly plant my attention on one verse or two and tear into them. Hopefully, you do this, too.
Right
We’ve dug into the words true and noble. Today our microscopic dissection will focus in on the word Right.
What is Right? How about you? What do you think right is? Is it ever wrong?? Is it different than what I think right is? Interesting thought, huh? Especially in this day and age. Let’s get some help from Mr. Webster:
Definition:
Right: (Oh my! This one word is taking up almost a whole column! I think I’m onto something BIG!) There are a ton of words that go along with this one word. Let me emphasize a few:
Definition for right: Straight, justice, law, morality, upright, virtuous, fact, correct, true, sound, accurate, to do justice, exactly.
And what am I supposed to do with this word according to the above verse?
Think About It:
That’s right…..think on it. And as we “think on it,” we are prone to “do it.” Do what’s right, just, correct. What’s accurate. We will give and live righteously. As we set our minds to the things above in those 2 verses, they will sink into our souls and minds and we will live by these words. Why? For Jesus sake. Yes, for Jesus’ sake. He has called us to live rightly. And we, His body, must obey Him. We, His ambassadors, must obey Him.
Application:
And as we think about it, we actually put into action what our minds are thinking. There you have it! It’s so very important, isn’t it, to place things in your realm for good–what we read, what we watch on TV and on our screens, what we surround ourselves with. Those choices we make really do impact our lives.
This Week’s Challenge:
- Define right from wrong in your daily walk this week.
- Write down some observations, trials, temptations as you focus on the Philippians 4:8,9 verse; especially on applying the word “right” into your daily walk.
- Write down specific choices you have made as you have been conscious of your decision making regarding this verse.
Thanks for reading and applying God’s word to your heart. You will continue to make a difference and impact your neighborhood….
For Jesus’ Sake
Yes, for Jesus sake. For we have been bought with a price. So “think” on these things, my dear friends.
“For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” I Corinthians 6:20
Have a great September week. 🙂
