The sunrise was pretty this morning. The new-fallen snow measured about 2-3″ in our neck of the woods. How about you? I love how it gives a fresh coat of white around here….such a beautiful clean look. Mr. Farmer has to go out and chore early every morning. This snowfall caused more work for him….blading off the driveway and scooping the walk always need to be done. I hear the county maintainer and the state highway maintainer periodically at their arduous tasks this morning.
Today in my bible reading were these verses from the book of Proverbs:
The Call of Wisdom
“Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?
If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.”
Proverbs 1: 20-23
Seems harsh, doesn’t it? Yet the Lord sends out the invite to seek wisdom so many times. Are we paying attention?
Mr. Farmer showed me an article on the front of the Wall Street Journal this morning, at the breakfast table. It was about Europe’s empty churches. Many are for sale now. One church in the Netherlands has been taken over by scruffy skateboardersa place which once held nearly 1,000 worshipers is is presently called Arnnhem Skate Hall. Why? Why?
Perhaps it’s because people do not see the significance of seeking wisdom; seeking the word of God. God gave us His word to: a) constrain us? b) to bore us? c) so that we could see and understand how much God loves us and wants to rescue us from sin and give us a new life in Him (his son Jesus). Of course c) is the correct answer.
One lady from Holland declared, “If the church is abandoned, we will have a huge change in our country.”. ..Belief in Christianity is dropping off in Europe while Islam is on the rise, with many immigrants coming in. Pray for Christians in Europe and for missionaries to go and preach the “Good News”. And in the meantime, seek wisdom…..seek the Lord while He may still be found.
In the new year of 2015, (Happy New Year, by the way), grab your bible and start reading it. Join me in reading the “One Year Bible”, a bible divided up in 365 daily readings. Each day there is a section to read in the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. (It’s about 6 pages a day.) You can pick one up at Walmart, Barnes and Noble, The Family Book Store and many places where books are sold. Or use a bible that you already have with a daily reading plan provided online, like this one.
Go to church. Look for one where the congregation brings and opens their bibles. One where salvation is preached. Let this new year be a year you will never forget as you learn and apply God’s principles to your life. You will be a trailblazer, making a huge difference in the lives you touch every day.
This is a new year. Make some changes if need be and……………Make a difference in 2015!
